The Tirkandi Inaburra podcast series delves into the stories of the staff and students of this unique cultural and development centre for young Wiradjuri Aboriginal boys. This residential program is designed to empower Aboriginal youth through the promotion of self confidence, identity and cultural pride. The series highlights the importance of holistic early intervention programs that are culturally tailored to meet the needs of the Aboriginal communities participating. The value of establishing and fostering excellent partnerships with other NGO’s is also discussed. This series would be particularly of interest to any NGO staff wanting to learn more about successful Aboriginal programs and those who would like to learn more about working effectively with Aboriginal children and families.

In Part 1 of the series, we learn about the history behind the establishment of the Centre and why young Aboriginal men come to Tirkandi Inaburra. We explore the types of activities the program offers and the benefits and outcomes of these activities. In particular, we discuss what makes the Centre different to other early intervention programs.

Tirkandi Inaburra Part 2 (of 3)
In Part 2 of the series, we hear in more detail why Tirkandi Inaburra is a valuable model of service delivery to examine. The staff discuss how they strive to provide a holistic and supportive early intervention service, not only to the boys but their families and communities also. Collaborative partnerships with other NGO’s are discussed in this context. The podcast also looks at some of the challenges that face the staff and students at Tirkandi.

Tirkandi Inaburra Part 3 (of 3)
In Part 3 we conclude the series by listening to the staff share some of their stories about the achievements of their past students. We also hear from some of the young men themselves as they tell us in their own words about Tirkandi and their dreams for the future.
