This training supports participants to understand fundamental concepts underpinning implementation of the Aboriginal Case Management Policy (ACMP). The ACMP aims to deliver better outcomes for Aboriginal children and families through sector development activities and increased participatory processes that support the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable Aboriginal children, by ensuring Aboriginal children are connected to family, culture and community.
The eLearning program is an introductory training course for managers and caseworker practitioners, DCJ contract managers and DCJ program managers; as well as service providers working with Aboriginal children, young people and families.
It consists of 3 individual modules and each module takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
The course gives an overview of the ACMP principles, core concepts, key enablers of the ACMP implementation, what this means for casework practitioners and how they will use it in everyday practice. It explains the four key enablers:
- Aboriginal-led decision making (ALDM)
- Proactive efforts
- Aboriginal-led Assessments
- Aboriginal Community Controlled Mechanisms (ACCM)
It also provides case studies that showcase how the policy will look in everyday practice if the policy is implemented and used to it ability. Caseworker practitioners and managers will learn more about the ACMP and how to implement the policy in their everyday work (in line with their District’s action plan).
The modules are high level in nature and are not intended to be detailed training on how to apply each key enabler into day-to-day practice.
The ACMP, Rules and Practice Guidance are available on the Aboriginal Case Management Policy page on www.facs.nsw.gov.au.
