This workshop aims to support core knowledge and strategies to support practice with children, young people, families and communities who have experienced / and or been impacted by trauma. Drawing on current research and a range of theories including attachment, child development (including brain development) and trauma theory, this workshop will explore the experiences and legacies of trauma, and pathways to healing. Within this workshop discussion will address the many layers of trauma experienced within various cultural contexts including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and people who have settled in Australia as refugees.

For individuals, families, and communities who have experienced trauma, intervention requires a relational approach supported by a philosophy and principles that promotes safety, trust, empowerment and collaboration. This two day workshop aims to examine the practical application of core principles from both an individual worker and agency perspective.
